Mr. Siegel practices in the firm’s insurance coverage/reinsurance
practice area. He has litigated many high profile coverage
disputes nationwide, and specializes in environmental, toxic
tort and asbestos coverage litigation. Mr. Siegel's practice
also regularly brings him into bankruptcy court, especially
in the context of asbestos coverage litigation. The high number
of policyholder bankruptcies, especially in the asbestos context,
have the potential to affect insurer obligations, including
but not limited to issues pertaining to the possible acceleration
of an insurer's purported obligation to indemnify in the context
of a policyholder's Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing. Mr. Siegel
is knowledgeable as to effect of the Bankruptcy Code on insurer
obligations.
Mr. Siegel is admitted to practice before
courts of the State of New York since 1982. He also is admitted
to practice before the United States Court of Appeals for
the Second Circuit, as well as the United States District
Court for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York.
He earned his Bachelor of Arts, cum laude, from the
State University of New York at Albany in 1977, and his J.D.
from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1981.
Mr. Siegel also received a Master of Science in Journalism
from Northwestern University in 1982. He was a clerk for U.S.
Magistrate Judge Ruth V. Washington in the Southern District
of New York from 1985-1986.
Mr. Siegel is active in his community, and
serves as a volunteer firefighter. |
